Hike to the suspended Tibetan Bridge in Val di Rabbi

Cristina & Fausto

In 2016, a long Tibetan bridge suspended over the Ragaiolo stream was inaugurated in Val di Rabbi, just a few kilometers from Madonna di Campiglio. If you want to experience the thrill of being more than 50 meters above the water, hearing the roar of the waterfall all around you, this is the right place for you.

The suspended Tibetan bridge over the Ragaiolo stream in Val di Rabbi

The bridge is surrounded by the enchanting scenery of the Val di Rabbi, a small side valley of larger Val di Sole, a true waterway paradise, with lots of streams, brooks and canals running through the meadows and forests, feeding lush, verdant nature.

The gorge crossed by the bridge is close to the top of the valley. From Madonna di Campiglio, head up towards Passo Campo Carlo Magno, following the signs for Dimaro and Malè. You’ll find the turn off for Val di Rabbi along the ring road that passes by Malè. It takes approximately half an hour walk to reach the bridge, following the itineraries found later in the article.

The excursion is suitable for families with small children, because it’s not too demanding or dangerous. The bridge is 100 meters long and made entirely in steel, with high balustrades that make it very safe. It can be crossed in small groups, maximum 10 people at a time. So get ready to wait a little, especially on weekends… but we guarantee it’s 100% worth it!

The bridge is suspended more than 50 meters above the water, making this experience not ideal for those with a fear for heights. Make sure you pay attention if you have a dog with you – the surface of the bridge is made of iron gratings, making it hard for our four-legged friends to cross easily.

Route characteristics

The path the bridge is very well looked after – partly of it follows a dirt road, the rest follows a path. There are some rather steep stretches, with steps dug into the ground, and this can make it difficult to take a stroller with you. There is also an alternative route, starting from Bagni di Rabbi, a little longer but easier to walk with strollers. As said before, the Tibetan bridge is made of steel, and the grate on its bottom could make it difficult for dogs to cross.

How to get to the Tibetan bridge

There are two routes to walk to the Tibetan bridge, both taking around 30/45 minutes.

Leave your car in the place known as Plan at Rabbi Fonti, then continue along the forest road that runs along the Rabbies stream. Once you reach the Venetian sawmill, follow the signs for Malga Fratte, then keep going towards the Ragaiolo waterfall until you get to the Tibetan bridge.

Alternatively, park at Terme di Rabbi, then take the second dirt road that heads up to the left (towards Malga Fratte). When you arrive at the bridge over the Ragaiolo stream, take the path zigzagging uphill to the start of the Tibetan bridge.

Equipment

The route does not present any specific difficulties. Comfortable clothing and closed shoes are recommended, as there are uphill stretches and part of the path runs through the forest.

Refreshments

The most convenient restaurant is nearby Malga Fratte, which is a further 20 minutes walk from the Tibetan Bridge. Alternatively, bars and restaurants can be found in Bagni di Rabbi.
