5 waterfalls you can't miss in Trentino
Whether they are very high or small, hidden in the woods or in plain sight, easily accessible or located in deep gorges, roaring or with little to no noise: in Trentino there are so many waterfalls to discover, always different, always unique. And many are easily accessible from Madonna di Campiglio and from our hotel!
We would therefore like to present you with a selection of the 5 waterfalls you can't miss in Trentino, starting of course with our Vallesinella waterfalls, just a stone's throw from Madonna di Campiglio!
The Vallesinella waterfalls, just a few steps from Madonna di Campiglio
They are known as the most photographed waterfalls in Trentino. And, in fact, together with the Nardis waterfalls – which we will see in the next paragraph – those of Vallesinella are the most spectacular waterfalls in Trentino. This small valley, so called because it was once crossed together with donkeys to reach the highest altitudes, is crossed by waterfalls located at three levels: we are talking precisely about the Alte waterfalls, the di Mezzo waterfall and the Basse waterfalls.
In all cases, these are majestic waterfalls to be admired at any time of day; if you can choose, however, the best time is at noon, when the sunlight illuminates the splashes of water. To discover the Vallesinella waterfalls, it is recommended to reach the mountain hut of the same name by shuttle bus or on foot, and then take an easy excursion among the various waterfalls.
The Nardis waterfalls, in Val di Genova
Let's stay in the Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta, but move to Val di Genova. Here, the Nardis waterfalls are undoubtedly the main attraction: with their 130 meters of height, these waterfalls amaze on the first, second, third, and hundredth visit, with the water of the Rio Nardis crashing onto the rocks below, creating a refreshing cloud of vapor.
That same water, moreover, flows from the Presanella glacier, which at 3,558 meters is the highest peak in all of Trentino. The ideal point to start discovering these waterfalls is the Ponte Verde parking lot, accessible by car or public transport. From here, after a few minutes of walking, you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of the waterfall; continuing on the same path, moreover, it is also possible to discover the waterfalls of Casöl, Lares, and Folgorida.
The Rio Bianco waterfall, in Stenico
We are still in the Dolomiti di Brenta, this time in Stenico. The ideal starting point for this short excursion is the access point to the Botanical Garden and the springs of the Rio Bianco waterfall, from where a dirt path winds its way quite quickly to the waterfall: those who wish can continue along the same path, making a 4.5-kilometer loop, to discover the botanical garden and the Bosco Arte Stenico as well.
The Rio Bianco waterfall is easily accessible, but it must be said that it is only visible in summer: in winter, in fact, it dries up completely!
The two Saent waterfalls in Val di Rabbi
Let's move on to Val di Rabbi, in the Stelvio National Park: here the Rabbies torrent forms two waterfalls, which can be reached in 30 and 50 minutes of walking respectively from Malga Stablasolo. Here too, the scenic impact is one that you will not forget, among larches, rock faces, and charming wooden bridges.
The route to discover the two Saent waterfalls in Val di Rabbi starts 3 kilometers from the town of Piazzola, at the Coler parking lot; those who wish to use the shuttle service can also directly reach Malga Stablasolo, located higher up than the Coler parking lot, so as to get significantly closer to the two waterfalls.
The Varone waterfall, in the Alto Garda
We close this short list of waterfalls not to be missed during a stay in Madonna di Campiglio with the famous Varone waterfall, just a stone's throw from Riva del Garda. Here the water of Lake Tenno, carried by the Magnone torrent, has carved over millennia into formidable gorges, so narrow that they look like caves.
And in fact, people usually speak of two caves, an upper one and a lower one, from which to admire this wonderful waterfall in all its power. To visit this magnificent scenery, it is necessary to go inside the Parco Grotta Cascata Varone, between Riva del Garda and Tenno.
