Excursion to the suspended Tibetan Bridge in Val di Rabbi
In Val di Rabbi, a few kilometers from Madonna di Campiglio, a long Tibetan bridge suspended over the Ragaiolo stream was inaugurated in 2016. If you want to experience the thrill of being more than 50 meters high above the water, with the roar of the waterfall filling your eyes and ears, this is the right place for you.
The Tibetan bridge suspended over the Regaiolo Stream in Val di Rabbi
The scenery is the enchanting one of Val di Rabbi, a small side valley of Val di Sole, a true paradise of waterways, with many streams, brooks, and rivulets cutting through its meadows and woods, nourishing a green and lush nature.
The gorge crossed by the bridge is located almost at the top of the valley. From Madonna di Campiglio, you must therefore drive up in the direction of Passo Campo Carlo Magno, following the signs for Dimaro and Malè. Along the bypass that passes next to Malè, you will find the junction for Val di Rabbi. To reach the bridge, a half-hour walk on foot is required, following the itineraries indicated further on in the article. The excursion is also suitable for families with small children, as it does not present overly demanding or dangerous sections. The bridge, 100 meters long, is entirely made of steel, with high balustrades that make it very safe. It can be crossed in small groups, maximum 10 people at a time. So be prepared to wait in line for a bit, especially during the weekend days … but it's worth it!
Considering the height above the water, over 50 meters, this experience is not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo. Pay a little attention also if you bring a dog with you: the surface of the bridge is made of iron grates, and this could make crossing difficult for four-legged friends.
Characteristics of the route
The route to reach the bridge is very well-maintained, partly on a dirt road, partly on a trail. Some sections, rather steep, are made of steps dug into the ground, and this can make it difficult to bring a stroller. There is eventually an alternative route, starting from Bagni di Rabbi, a bit longer but easier for walking with strollers. As anticipated in the article, the Tibetan bridge is made of steel, and the grate floor could put dogs in difficulty.
How to get to the Tibetan bridge
You can reach the Tibetan bridge on foot in two ways. Both routes take about 30/45 minutes.
Leave your car in the locality of Plan in Rabbi Fonti, then continue along the forest road that runs alongside the Rabbies stream. Once you reach the Venetian sawmill, follow the signs for Malga Fratte, then continue towards the Ragaiolo waterfall until the entrance of the Tibetan bridge.
Alternatively, park at the Terme di Rabbi, then take the second dirt road that climbs to the left (direction Malga Fratte). When you reach the bridge over the Ragaiolo stream, take the trail that climbs in a zigzag up to the beginning of the Tibetan bridge.
Necessary equipment
The route does not present specific difficulties. Considering that there are uphill sections and that others cross the woods, closed shoes and comfortable clothing are still recommended.
Refreshment points
The most convenient refreshment point is the nearby Malga Fratte, which can be reached by continuing past the Tibetan bridge and is about another 20 minutes from it. Alternatively, restaurants and bars are located in Bagni di Rabbi.
