THE OSVALDO ORSI TRAIL, PASSING THROUGH THE MOUNTAIN HUTS OF THE DOLOMITES

We tell you about the Osvaldo Orsi trail, which is actually just a small part of a more complex tour along the mountain huts of the Brenta Dolomites.

The Osvaldo Orsi Trail, a trekking for experts

The complete route is suitable for true mountain lovers: demanding trails that include just under two hours of walking to reach Rifugio Tuckett from the Grostè cable car and about three hours of walking to descend from Rifugio Pedrotti/Tosa to Rifugio Vallesinella (the departure point for the shuttle that returns to the hotel), passing by Rifugio Brentei.
The total duration of the route, round trip from the hotel, is therefore equal to about 8/9 hours of walking.

Through the mountain huts of the Dolomites: Tuckett, Tosa, and Pedrotti

From Rifugio Tuckett, you climb along the debris path and on mixed snow and ice that leads to the Bocca di Tuckett. From here, you descend on the east side of the Brenta Dolomites (with glimpses of Lake Molveno) towards the head of Val di Perse. You then continue on level ground to a rocky boulder where you turn right and pass, climbing below the walls of Cima Brenta.

Subsequently, you walk along the ledge equipped with fixed ropes of the “Sega Alta” to reach an altitude of 2510 meters on a rocky shoulder towards the so-called “Naso dei Massodi”.
From this point, you will observe wonderful Dolomite panoramas, until reaching the stunning context of the “Busa degli Sfulmini” from which you can admire the famous “Campanile Basso”, one of the most famous peaks in all the Dolomites.
After crossing this magnificent basin, the trail goes towards the gully that descends from Bocca di Brenta, which you walk uphill until reaching the Tosa and Pedrotti mountain huts.

Characteristics of the route:

Difficult itinerary for expert walkers. Route that develops on snowy/icy sections and with some passages on a via ferrata.

Start and end of the route:

The described itinerary starts from Rifugio Tuckett and ends at Rifugio Pedrotti/Tosa. The technical data sheet does not indicate the altitude differences and walking times relative to the part of the walk to reach Rifugio Tuckett and to descend from Rifugio Pedrotti/Tosa to Vallesinella (the terminal for the shuttle back to the hotel).

Technical data:

  • Total elevation gain (ascent + descent) of about +400 meters
  • Duration of the route about 4 hours.
  • Trail 303.

Means of transport:

To avoid excessive elevation gains, it is advisable to go up to Grostè by cable car. The rest of the route is on foot.

Necessary equipment:

Trekking boots, possibly high on the ankle, appropriate “layered” clothing for any cold drafts, rain cape, sun hat, trekking poles, harness for the ferrata sections.
A water bottle and some chocolate are useful to quench your thirst and regenerate energy!

Refreshment points and mountain huts:

There are no mountain huts along the route. The only refreshment points are at the departure (Rifugio Tuckett) and at the arrival (Rifugio Pedrotti/Tosa). It is therefore important to start equipped with a packed lunch.
