All the charm of Castel Thun in Val di Non

Monday, 18 May 2026

Today’s excursion will take you on a journey into the past: we take you back to medieval times, among the gardens and rooms of Castel Thun in Val di Non.
Not very far from Madonna di Campiglio, in the heart of Val di Non, you can visit this ancient castle that stands out for its beauty and dominates the valley from a hill above the village of Vigo di Ton. Surrounded by towers, walls, and a moat with a 16th-century patrol path, it was built surrounded by a complex system of fortifications.
The castle remained closed to the public until 2010 when, after a long period of restoration by the Autonomous Province of Trento, the doors were opened that for years had guarded silverware, porcelain, and ancient stoves, as well as paintings and portraits of Prince-Bishops.

What to see at Castel Thun

The beauty of this castle is not only due to its position and the perfect state of preservation of the exteriors, but above all to the precious furnishings. As soon as you cross the imposing Spanish Gate overlooking the drawbridge and enter the internal courtyard, you take a step back in time. Walking through the royal halls, it is possible to admire the kitchen of yesteryear, complete with cookware and objects used in the past for cooking, the library with 10,000 volumes, the bedrooms, the armory, and the majolica stoves.

Exhibitions and activities at Castel Thun

Especially during the summer period, Castel Thun hosts events and demonstrations inside the gardens surrounding the castle. It is possible to visit the castle accompanied by a guide, but also to participate in workshops and activities for both adults and children. On the Castello del Buonconsiglio website, you can find more information and better organize your visit.
