The 5 Lakes Tour
The 5 LAKES TOUR, ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HIKES IN MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO
The 5 Lakes tour is one of the classic hikes in Madonna di Campiglio, not to be missed for any reason given its extraordinary beauty.
The route develops on comfortable and non-dangerous paths with a section by cable car, but it requires adequate physical preparation given the significant differences in altitude, especially downhill.
During the entire itinerary you can enjoy a splendid view of the Dolomiti di Brenta, which will stand out in front of you like a magnificent cinematic backdrop.
What are the 5 lakes around Madonna di Campiglio?
As anticipated, you take the cable car from Madonna di Campiglio for the first ascent; having left the 5 Laghi gondola, you easily reach the first lake, Lago Ritorto, and then you climb towards the second, Lago Lambin, covering the only stretch of real ascent of the entire itinerary.
You then continue towards Lago Serodoli on a path completely outside the vegetation and without significant differences in altitude. Having reached this lake, you climb for a few meters towards Lago Gelato, which in the months of June and July can still be found partially covered by ice and snow.
Then retrace your steps and descend along a long downhill path towards Lago Nambino (the last of the 5 Lakes). This is the most tiring stretch as it is a long descent, at times on a path that does not allow for continuous walking.
Return on foot or by cable car…
Once you reach Lago di Nambino, you descend towards Madonna di Campiglio, having three different paths available that comfortably lead back to Hotel Alpina.
To avoid the long descent towards Lago Nambino, after leaving Lago Serodoli, it is possible to descend along the path that leads to the Pradalago gondola, crossing the area known as “Busa dei Cavai”; the path is mainly on stone, for experts.
Once you reach the cable car, you go down to the village with the latter.
Route characteristics:
An itinerary that is not difficult and without particularly accentuated exposure. A long route with a fair amount of elevation gain. Within the reach of those who already have a certain familiarity with the mountains and a bit of training. Not to be done as the first trip of the holiday as it can be tiring.
Start and end of the route:
The itinerary described begins by taking the 5 Laghi Gondola and the tour ends at Lago di Nambino before descending to Madonna di Campiglio.
- Technical data:
- Ascent elevation gain approx. 300 meters
- Descent elevation loss approx. 900 meters
- Duration of the route approx. 5 hours. Paths 232 and 217.
Means of transport:
You start on foot from the hotel and the only means of transport to use is the 5 Laghi gondola, uphill only.
Necessary equipment:
Hiking boots, possibly high on the ankle, adequate "layered" clothing for any cold drafts, rain cape, sun hat, trekking poles. A water bottle and a bit of chocolate are useful to quench your thirst and restore energy!
Refreshment points and mountain huts:
There are no mountain huts along the route. The only refreshment points are at the departure (5 Laghi hut, at the arrival of the gondola) and at Lago Nambino (the last of the 5 Lakes, homonymous hut). It is therefore important to leave equipped with a packed lunch.
